Are you ready to hire a brand designer? 5 questions to help you decide.

Branding is an amazing and worthwhile investment, but it may not be the answer for every business at every stage. In this post, we share 5 questions to help you decide if you are ready to hire a brand designer.

1. What type of business are you?

Typically, most product-based businesses benefit from having a brand identity created from the start (because branding and aesthetics are a huge reason we buy one product over another!) In contrast, many service-based businesses or personal brands may want to wait for a little before investing in brand design. Waiting to invest allows you to figure out who you are and what makes YOU unique before investing in branding.

2. Do you know who you are? and what makes you unique?

It's essential to have a good idea of who you are and what makes you unique before investing in brand design. Knowing this will help your designer create branding that transcends trends and enables you to stand out. Sometimes this can take some time to figure out, and that is perfectly ok!

Many brand designers will help you to gain clarity on who you are, so it's not ALL on you, but it's helpful to have a good idea before you invest.

3. Are you at a place where you can invest?

It's no secret that branding is a significant investment! It can be tempting to hire based on budget, but we always recommend saving up to work with a studio that:

  1. Has work that you love

  2. Has a thorough process

  3. You just vibe with (cause that's important!)

PS: If you aren't at a place where you can invest, don't be discouraged! We’ll share some tips for this later.

4. Do you have goals that branding would help you achieve?

Do you have big goals or business plans coming up that branding would be necessary for? For example, you may be someone who wants to open a brick and mortar next year. We always recommend reaching out plenty in advance to ensure you have beautiful branding for things like signage, bags, tags, etc. Consider that most brand designers book in advance and branding projects can vary in time depending on the scope.

5. Do you feel like your current brand is holding you back?

You know those times when someone asks for a business card, and you cringe because you haven't had any made since you DIY'd your logo in 2016? We've been there. Or maybe you feel as if your branding or website is holding you back from sales? We've been there, too. You've poured your heart and soul into your business and deserve a brand you feel proud of.

We hope this post helped you to have a clear understanding of if investing in brand design is right for you at this stage in your business. If you have any questions, we’d love to continue the conversation over on Instagram @studioantheia :)
